As Canada and the world reopen from the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, we have an opportunity to reimagine what community care looks like and to maintain a sense of kinship with the people we love. Food plays a significant role in our lives, influencing us emotionally and socially, and our food choices are often deeply personal. In these increasingly stressful times, when community action is more important than ever, making time for people and creating communal meals may be one of the most meaningful things we can do—for both our health and well-being and the wider community.
Visual Arts of Mississauga and PUFF Paddy presented "Food For Thought," an intergenerational workshop where participants crafted their favorite dishes using arts, crafts, and upcycled materials. Through reflecting on what food means to them, participants had the opportunity to share their cultural identities, personal stories, and passion for cuisine while exploring their creativity. The workshop culminated in a special exhibition at VAM Gallery on November 21, 2021, where the community could view and enjoy the imaginative, everlasting meal created by all.
