In the summer of 2018, Paddy Leung was invited to host a mask-making workshop at Xpace Cultural Centre, offering a playful and participatory way for the public and Xpace’s community to engage with art. Inspired by Leung’s earlier mask-making events, participants were encouraged to explore self-expression and creativity through the design and decoration of their own masks, while enjoying the exhibitions on display.
This workshop emphasized hands-on, accessible, and process-based art-making, creating a welcoming environment where individuals of all ages and experience levels could experiment freely. The project allowed participants to engage with materials, colors, and forms in ways that reflected their personal stories, identities, and imagination.
As a not-for-profit, artist-run centre, Xpace supports emerging and student artists, designers, curators, and writers by providing professional exhibition opportunities, workshops, panels, and events that respond directly to the needs of their communities. By hosting the mask-making event, Leung contributed to Xpace’s mission of fostering inclusive, engaging, and community-driven artistic experiences while connecting with participants through shared creativity and playful exploration.
